What’s a drama without a bit of drama itself, especially one that has amassed a huge following for each of its stars. The sequel to last year’s runaway hit Lost You Forever 长相思2 is well underway with the costume historical surpassing the 30,000 mark on Tencent’s heat index by its 4th day of premiere.
Discord Among Fans
Whilst definitely great news, it’s crazy how the mudslinging has not waned. Yang Zi now celebrates having all four of her dramas hitting 30K on Tencent: The Oath of Love, Lost You Forever S1, Best Choice Ever and Lost You Forever S2. Yang Zi’s role as Xiao Yao is certainly leading in popularity along with fan faves like Deng Wei who plays Tushan Jing and Tan Jianci who has a special starring role as Xiang Liu. However, their popularity has also resulted in discord among their fans over many things like the plot, screen time, the presscon, etc.
Recently, Tan Jianci actually addressed complaints directed at him after he was criticised as being “greasy” …. all because of a scene where Xiang Liu plays the guqin (Chinese zither) and sings to Xiao Yao! There’s no question that the 33-year-old singer-actor who started out as part of the Chinese idol group M.I.C. sings well, yet having the scene in there where he serenades the heroine was deemed cringeworthy by some.
Tan Jianci Responds
In the scene, Xiang Liu was rather aggressively plucking the instrument whilst singing a particularly blood thirsty song. He sang Chi Chen’s song with lyrics about cutting out his heart, just so she can see him. Many have also defended the actor asking how anyone could ever describe his acting as greasy and that he totally did the role of Xiang Liu justice. Nonetheless, the actor who was asked about it in a livestream quickly addressed the complaints. He said, “I saw it, I saw it, Some people said I’m greasy, yes, yes, (I’ll) change. They said it well…”
“Yep! I’ll do better” he humbly said. Tan Jianci acknowledged that when he watched the scene once again, it felt like his interpretation of the scene wasn’t done too well. “Actors have to perform each scene effectively, to do it well. Even if you’re not careful just by a bit, it can affect everyone’s perception. This is my problem and I’ll do better.” You gotta hand it to him, despite being such an in-demand actor right now, Tan Jianci still remains very grounded and down to earth. He said he’ll accept any criticism as long as it’s helpful to him and thanked people for supporting the show.
Hope his response will nip this thing in the bud. As it is, fans have already been fighting over their favourites and it’s becoming quite toxic. Here’s hoping it won’t get out of hand.

TJC has sang it very well with the right emotions. It is a heart-wrenching song. He’s a very good actor.
Never understood what they meant by “greasy” . But if the script calls for “greasiness”, then “greasy” it should be.

He was awesome and one of my favorite characters in the show ,both seasons. I just hated how his ending , although heroic is so lonely and sad .

wait was it supposed to be greasy? I actually find him acceptable in that scene. 1st he wasn’t singing HIS song, it’s someone else’s romantic song, which the FL commented was very violent and bloody lol. I suppose if he sang a war song, it might suit his image as the general better.
I loved how he responded tho. Not defensive, just accepting and thirsty for improvement

It never ceases to amaze me how people choose to ignore the fact that there is a director and a script writer who instruct the actor to do a scene a certain way………and on most occasions the actor will do their best to comply to the directors request…..now I am pretty certain that it would have been discussed at length how this scene would be done, if you don’t like it then OK that’s your opinion but don’t blame the actor and if the director wasn’t happy with the outcome he could have edited it out. So I think laying the blame on Tan Jianci is not right. Anyway I liked it and could not see any problem…….just my opinion😁

I have watched the part with him singing repeatedly. He had the right emotion. I wished he could have song longer. I could feel the intensity of Chi’s love within the song. Tan Jianci is awesome

Who could say ANYTHING about this character and the way he portrayed it. He gave us the performance of a decade. The character was written well and his portrayal is undeniable!
