Count Your Lucky Stars (Aug 3 Youku)

It sure feels as though Count Your Lucky Stars has been ‘coming soon’ for months now especially with many of the Meteor Garden 2018 cast members returning with a drama this year. From Dylan Wang’s Ever Night 2, Darren Chen’s The Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty, Caesar Wu’s The Chang’an Youth to Leon Leong’s My Love, Enlighten Me, it looks like our Shan Cai is the only one who has yet to make a comeback and she’s finally here with none other than the OG Dao Mingsi. 

Jerry Yan stars as Lu Xingcheng, a man who is used to having the world at his feet until he loses everything in an instant. Shen Yue as Tong Xiaoyou was used to being eternally jinxed until the day she becomes famous overnight. 

Love and Redemption (Aug 6 Youku, Mango TV)

According to legends, the god of war saved the heavens in a deadly battle against the demon a thousand years ago. Both fell from the heavens and disappeared from the world. Yuan Bingyan plays Chu Xuanji, a young woman born to the world lacking in the six senses which makes her rather clueless and inept. She befriends Yu Xifeng, played by Cheng Yi, the outstanding head disciple of Lize Palace who falls for her, thus beginning a xianxia romance that is entangled with the conspiracies from the past.

Dance of the Phoenix (Aug 10 Tencent)

Once hailed as a genius girl, Yang Chaoyue as Feng Wu is discarded after falling victim to a plot against her. A modern-day girl enters the world of cultivation in the body of Feng Wu and falls in love with Jun Linyuan played by Xu Kaicheng.

Under the Sun (Aug 10 Dragon TV, iQIYI, Tencent, Youku, MGTV)

Song Jia and Yuan Hong star as a married couple as they tackle everyday experiences that ordinary people face from problems of the heart to friendship and career.

Go Ahead (Aug 10 Hunan TV, Mango TV)

A family drama that follows three individuals brought together not by blood, but by a connection forged by the bonds of love and kinship three children have for each other. It stars Seven Tan Songyun, Song Weilong with Steven Zhang Xincheng in a special starring role.

midsummer is full of hearts

Midsummer is Full of Hearts (Aug 28 Tencent)

It was disappointing to hear that the Chinese remake of Full House which was supposed to air Jul 30 has been postponed, but here’s to hoping that the tentative schedule set for August actually happens. The romantic comedy follows Yang Chaoyue as a rookie musician who happens to meet Timmy Xu as a popular idol. The two enter into a contract marriage after being ‘forced’ to live together. 

Knock on the Happiness Door (Aug 12 Jiangsu TV, Zhejiang TV, iQIYI, Tencent, Youku)

Nie Yuan and Wu Jinyan reunite for their third drama in a story inspired by the struggles of ordinary people as it follows a doctor and a young police officer who find true meaning in life and happiness.

Love Yourself (Aug 18 iQIYI)

Victoria Song, Celina Jade, Zhang Jianing and Li Chun star in a story about four women in their thirties during a glorious chapter in their lives. In the city of Shanghai at the age when they are most beautiful, they continuously strive for growth, independence and ultimately find friendship and love

My Strange Friend (Aug 19 iQIYI)

Wang Yibo, Zhang Yijie, Wang Mengli and Zhang Nan star in a sci-fi web series about a group of people with unique abilities that allow them to read minds, see the future, conjure electricity, perform telekinesis and become invisible

A Murderous Affair in Horizon Tower (Aug 19 Tencent)

Guo Tao and Yang Zishan are two police officers working together to solve a complicated case surrounding the murder of a beautiful woman, played by Angelababy.

My Unicorn Girl (Aug 23 iQIYI)

Things don’t exactly work out for aspiring figure skater Sang Tian, played by Sebrina Chen Yao. Instead of becoming a figure skater, she joins the hockey team while in disguise as a man where she meets ice hockey player Wen Bing played by Darren Chen.

God of Lost Fantasy (Aug 27 Youku)

Peter Sheng Yilun stars as Qin Wentian, the adopted son of the Qin Family who is known to be a weakling. After suffering many injustices, he vows to regain what he has lost and helps the Crown Prince take the throne. Olivia Wang Ziwen plays his love interest who faithfully fights alongside Qin Wentian.

Miss S (Aug 28 Beijing TV, Tencent)

Known as the Chinese remake of the Australian TV series Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, Ma Yili and Vengo Gao star as the uncanny crime-solving duo in Miss S.
