The Best Thing 爱你 starring Zhang Linghe and Xu Ruohan, is an urban romance that’s as swoon-worthy as it gets—their chemistry is undeniable.
But even so, imagine how mortifying it would be for your family – your grandparents, your parents, and even your fellow villagers, to be watching you constantly locking lips with your onscreen partner. Whilst promoting his drama on social media, Zhang Linghe let slip that his entire clan were all eagerly awaiting for the release of the show. Perhaps knowing the sheer amount of kissing himself and Xu Ruohan would be doing, the 27-year-old actor hilariously warned his family: “You can watch it, but just don’t just focus on the kissing scenes … and don’t send me pictures after watching it!”
Word on the street says the whole drama would have as many as 60 kissing scenes … which is, quite a lot. Amused Netizens meanwhile couldn’t get past the image of his entire family all gathered in front of the telly .. to watch them kiss a lot. Of course, the recent behind the scenes photos of his swollen lips (from too much kissing) certainly didn’t help.
In The Best Thing, Zhang Linghe’s character, He Suye, falls for Xu Ruohan’s character, Shen Xifan, launching an intense courtship. The drama is packed with passionate moments, including the heroine making the first move during a drunken kiss, the couple kissing in the car, and that little wiggle Zhang Linghe does mid-kiss.
Zhang Linghe rose to fame through a string of historical dramas like My Journey to You, Story of Kunning, Love Between Fairy and Devil and the more recent The Princess Royal. Now, he’s finally back as the romantic lead in a modern drama. He stars opposite Xu Ruohan who gained attention in The Forbidden Flower. Clearly, they know what they’re doing and fans aren’t complaining.
