Li Xinze recently penned a heartfelt essay to mark the conclusion of his dramas, Brocade Odyssey and Blossom. He shares it’s the first time in his career that he’s had two of his dramas air simultaneously. He was also in uber hit series The Double among others earlier this year. Netizens commented that Li Xinze is very busy these days, which he affirms and adds, “I am very happy.”
Li Xinze’s Memorable Roles
Many first got to know Li Xinze from his role as Rahu Ketu, the Star of Mosha, in Love and Redemption. He’s played many supporting roles, and perhaps his most memorable one became the eldest martial senior Tang Lian in the wuxia series The Blood of Youth. The 34-year-old actor is often in “good guy” roles but certainly not in Blossom where he plays the scumbag ex-husband of the female lead during her past life. Li Xinze thanked his team for wanting him to have more exposure in a bad market. He said that working on Brocade Odyssey was due to him having worked with the director before. As for Blossom, he sent in his audition and found out two months later that he got the part of Wei Tingyu.
Why He Plays a Scumbag?
Many asked why Li Xinze would take the role of a “scumbag” when he’s had so many good roles before. His reply, “In the industry, it always boils down to being chosen… I always tell myself that there are no small roles, no bad roles, only small actors.” Li Xinze reflects on the challenges of navigating a tough market in recent years, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to act.
While he aspires to play more likeable characters, he says his priority is survival and staying true to his dream. The actor revealed that once upon a time, many doubted his ability to take on historical roles saying he didn’t have the “look” for it, but he’s starred in a number of historicals. To end, Li Xinze humbly appealed to directors and producers to recognize his potential. Reflecting on 2024 as a year filled with both challenges and unexpected blessings, Li Xinze’s ultimate wish is to participate in acting-themed reality shows. Let’s hope he gets it.

Absolutely nothing wrong with “scumbag” roles. They are essential to the stories, aren’t they? Without “scumbags”, there would be no heroes. The only issue is whether the actors can portray the characters they play, well or not.

He’s a good actor with a lot of range. I look forward to seeing his future works.
