Dawn Amidst Hidden Clouds (探晴安) has just announced its release date on October 24, 2024, on Tencent. This new historical romance drama is headlined by Chang Huasen, with 24-year-old Zhao Qing as his female lead. Both are relatively newer actors, having debuted in recent years. You may recognize Chang Huasen as an idol hopeful from Youth with You Season 3 in 2021, although he actually tried his hand at acting even before that. Most recently, the 27-year-old actor appeared as the second lead in the Tencent series Are You the One.
What’s funny is that it is reminiscent of his breakout role in the hit series A Journey to Love, which gives off second lead syndrome vibes since his supporting role was a character madly devoted to the heroine. Can we just say I’m happy for the actor that his new role is now as the male lead? He’s definitely going to get the girl this time! His co-star, Zhao Qing, is also moving up from supporting roles in shows like Scent of Time and The Double.
Based on the novel Dali Temple: Adorable Lord (大理寺萌主) by Mo Baiyan (墨白焰), Dawn Amidst Hidden Clouds follows Chang Huasen as the cold and calculating detective Lou Mingye and Zhao Qing as the bright and spirited Lan Che, a girl who finds herself entangled in a murder mystery. The story highlights Lan Che’s transformation from a street-smart girl to the first female deputy minister of Dali Temple. Together, they navigate countless twists and turns in their investigations, with their chemistry evolving from clashes and misunderstandings to mutual trust.
The cast also includes Qiu Hongkai, Wu Mingjing, Liu Weisen, Wang Xinting, and Cheng Sihan. This is a relatively short historical drama, consisting of 22 episodes. Filming took place in Hengdian from February 20, 2023, to April 12, 2023. A wait of just over a year until premiere is not bad for a C-drama!
