Veteran Hong Kong actor Benz Hui Shiu-hung (許紹雄) passed away at 2:30 a.m. on October 28, 2025 due to multi-organ failure, which was revealed to be caused by cancer. He was 76. His family and close friends, including Michael Miu and his wife, Charmaine Sheh, and Maria Luisa Leitao, were by his side during his final moments.
Illness and Final Days
Health concerns surfaced in June 2025 when Benz Hui returned to his hometown in Guangzhou and was seen having difficulty walking. In August, while filming The Narcotic Operation, he fainted from high blood pressure but returned to work after only two weeks of rest. His condition suddenly worsened on October 26, leading to hospitalization. By the following day, his health deteriorated rapidly. More than 20 celebrities rushed to visit him before his passing. Charmaine Sheh was tearful when asked about him. Chow Yun-fat, Raymond Lam, Ron Ng and Bosco Wong were among those who paid their last respects.
TVB’s “Golden Supporting Actor”
Joining TVB’s very first actor training class in 1972, the actor earned the nickname “Benz” for driving a Mercedes to work. With a career that spanned over 50 decades, he appeared in more than 200 productions. His iconic role as “Brother Foon Hei” in Line Walker (2014) earned him widespread popularity. Even in his later years, his passion for acting never waned. He had filmed six dramas in 2024. His final works, TVB drama Themis and movie Queen of Majhong, will air posthumously.
Born into a prominent family, Hui never relied on his lineage. He joined TVB at 24, starting from minor roles. He married Singaporean Lung Yin-yi in 1992, and together they have one daughter, Charmaine Hui, now married. In his later years, he moved to Singapore and co-ran a YouTube channel and restaurant with his daughter.
Known for his optimism, Benz Hui often said, “The most important thing is to be happy” reminding people to “cherish those around you, tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.” His final Weibo post on October 10 promoted his drama Justice Is Mine.
