Yikes! There seems to be a lot of negative news coming out about Esther Yu Shuxin lately. First, there’s the accusation of bullying from Esther’s 2016 Grade One Graduation co-star Zhang Haoyue. Then another co-star from the same show Zhao Zhiwei also came out to reveal his “pairing” with Esther – something he says was pushed upon him by the show, had been the reason why he was labelled as a cheater when there was no truth to it at all. As if that wasn’t enough, Esther’s family wealth was once again in the spotlight after a financial blogger questioned how they gained their wealth, even alleging that it involved state-owned funds. If proven true, this could be a serious problem for the entire family. With these brand new allegations about her dad, things just seem to be getting worse for the popular actress.
Esther (or her dad rather) is the subject of another round of accusations for buying high end luxury goods for his daughter with cash. There is, of course nothing wrong with using cash to purchase items. But when one’s father reportedly faces high consumption restrictions imposed by the courts a couple of years ago after allegedly refusing to pay off debts exceeding RMB 15 million (~US$ 2.09 million), using cash to purchase luxury items perhaps to make monitoring his spending harder seems highly suspect.
The Now Deleted Clip that Triggered the Backlash
Who knew an old post Esther made would all come back to bite her several years later. In 2019, whilst out shopping at a designer store in Macau, Esther completely missed BLACKPINK members Lisa and Jisoo who were serendipitously shopping in the same boutique as her. Being a huge fan of Lisa who was also her Youth With You 2 mentor, Esther later lamented on social media her missed chance to greet her idols. “The one blacked out is my dad! We were so caught up shopping for bags that we didn’t even notice @Lisa … You’re so shy! Why didn’t you call me?! I really need to get myself some glasses …”

Rumours online claim the father and daughter pair used cash to pay for their purchases, leading to questions of the legality of his actions.
While it was reported that the actress has “no direct equity or business relationship” with her father’s companies, this didn’t stop folks from calling for a closer look. Given the heat on the actress, her Studio also announced they’ve handed over the issue of slander and defamatory comments to their lawyers for investigation and legal action. Her father has also lawyered up against his accuser. However, many are still expecting a direct response to address the issues which they say are too big to ignore.

This is not the first time the serious allegations have come up. Embezzling state assets is a very serious crime. Wouldn’t the government launch an investigation on this if it were likely true?
yy
Are you stupid? Do you know what CCP is? If you are rich enough, you become part of it.
Raya
Geez seems like every big name actor in C-Cent is being attacked wirh hearsay. What a toxic environment!!!
Kai
Except this is not hearsay. Everyone knows that she was able to land big roles right from her early days due to her father’s “investment” in the productions. Other people have to work for years to catch their big breaks.
Everyone knows she is super rich with a lavish lifestyle. No secret at all.
In China, it is ok to be super rich but if you flaunt it or use it to buy advantages, then be ready for public scrutiny and official investigations into criminal activities. Esther’s parents are now in for investigations, that’s for sure.
There are many other young actors in China with super rich family background but they are better brought up. They do not flaunt their wealth, behave arrogantly to others or buy their roles. They worked their way up like everyone else and they are well respected.

ну конечно. бредите…

Well said Kai. That’s core of the problem in her case, she really fast tracked her career thanks to daddy’s investments. Her behaviour on the set matched rich gen 2. This was inevitable. I’m surprised she and her team are nit better prepared for this.

She actually has a good pr team. I first read about this news in May(?), during the same time when the news about huangyan tian tian’s earrings came out. But this news at that time was quickly suppressed.

Yes, her family is rich and led her to landing some roles but i believe the reason for her gaining a sizable fanbase is her attitude and personality in youth with you. Some hated it, but her clips went viral and people loved it because of her hardworking and genuine spirit. You cant blame her for being born into a rich and i dont think shes showed any spoilt personality from videos ive seen.
Coralie
that’s news to me. she started in small supporting roles if her wiki is any indication of the truth. her family has a background in the media, so it’s not surprising if she got some good leads for roles because of her connections. but so what? I can honestly say there are plenty of nepo babies, but it shouldn’t discredit her success either. she was very charming in youth with you 2, and she got famous for that – not from her dramas. that reality show relied more on the contestants’ talent and charisma, which is not easy to see in dramas. then her dad invested in LBFAD and thank God he did, because it paid off for him AND her. that drama’s success tells us what good entertainment should be like and should feel like. I guess I don’t see why there’s so much hate on Esther just because she came from wealth.

@Kai. I totally agree with your comment that rich people in china usually don’t flaunt their wealth, or else they will be subjected to public scrutiny. Tbh, that’s the reason why I’m suspicious about the source of her family’s wealth in the first place. To add to that, she simply doesn’t have the vibe of someone that grows up wealthy since young, but like someone that suddenly becomes rich. When I read more about her father’s company, I became more suspicious as the company was located in Jiangxi, not Shanghai. She’s been marketing herself as Shanghai wealthy 2nd generation though. Many people in chinese social media revealed recently that her household registration is Jiangxi, not Shanghai and she actually went to elementary and middle school there.
@dramapanda. the law firm that her father hired was mocked by other lawyers because (1) no letter (2) no official stamp. the financial blogger that has been talking about her father’s company himself said that he didn’t receive any lawyer letter.

Everyone knows but noone has the least evidence… I don’t call it knowing.

I remembered her dating scandal with Vanness Wu, i think that scandal lived in my head rent-free. I wonder if she ever met him at all? Well, he’s divorced & can date again, bet him & Esther can be a couple!

As a celebrity I think Gdragon said he will sue even if it is minor because eod rhe big effect it has ….. I thought tkdrama was bad with stress and hate they receive … but cdrama now I wondering if the level of scrutiny is not worse ?
foulthings
C-ent is bad for sure but just compare the suicide rates of celebs and you’ll see how much worse the Korean entertainment industry is.
Raya
What is with the title? Where did they get bullying from? I only hear complaints about wealth. What is wrong with enjoying your success? lots of speculations based on photos. lots of bored people need to come up with drama.
pillowcase
@Raya. The bullying is from the variety show Grade One Graduation, not from a photo and it was included in this article. I’m not surprised tbh, after spending some time reading c-entertainment news and gossips, I have come to realise that the behaviour of fans actually reflects the behaviour of celebrities that they are fans of. Didn’t her fans cyberbully a college student before? And one of the lawyers that posted on weibo regarding her father’s company/wealth got his personal information exposed by her fan/s, while another one received DMs saying he will be sued. The lawyer that her fans threatened to sue is not a nobody; he has appeared in CCTV and actually descendant of china national hero. Lol. That’s why some are saying that she becomes famous because of her fans and her downfall is or will be caused by her fans too.
