Thai Singer-Actress Nene Changes Her Name to Qala Nôir

Thai singer-actress Pornnappan Pornpenpipat —known to many as Nene—announced a dramatic name change during her fan meeting and on social media, rebranding herself as Qala Nôir and sharing her new Instagram @0xqala. At her fanmeet, Nene introduced “Qala Nôir” as her new stage name and renamed her fandom from “Atom” to “The Killian.”

She also made headlines when she suddenly jumped off the stage barefoot and rushed into the audience. She approached her boyfriend Vachirawit Chivaaree, better known as Bright and broke down in tears in his arms before she calmly returned to the stage to continue her performance.

Contrary to her “sweet image” as C-pop idol Zheng Naixin, Nene, now Qala Nôir has drawn flak over her change in stance; with incidents like her calling public toilets in China dirty seen as a one-eighty from her Produce 101 days when she’d emphasize her Chinese lineage. Before that, Nene going public with Bright also drew flak, not just from C-netizens but even fans of Bright’s BL series 2gether who weren’t happy that the lead actor ended up with the supporting actress. Her recent decision has similarly drawn divided opinions as some showed support and others criticism.
