Thai-Chinese singer and actress Nene (Zheng Naixin) has sparked controversy among Chinese netizens again, this time over her comments about having no contact with her former BonBon Girls 303 bandmates, which was a seven-member girl group under Tencent and Wajijiwa Entertainment.

During a recent livestream, Nene was asked whether she still kept in touch with her former girl group members. The 27-year-old responded, “No, not even a little because I often change to a new phone, those apps, what was it called again? WeChat? I don’t have those old things anymore. Lost all contact.”

This remark did not sit well with some Chinese fans, with some expressing regret for ever supporting her. Many felt she was being dismissive of her rise to fame in China, that she couldn’t even remember the messaging app she used then. Nene’s public relationship with Thai actor Bright Vachirawit had already drawn backlash as some Chinese netizens were upset due to Bright’s past controversy in 2020.

Originally from Thailand, Nene became popular in China after competing on Produce Camp 2020, where she finished in the top ranks and debuted as part of BonBon Girls 303, which disbanded in 2022.
