Republican revenge drama Overdo 这一秒过火 announced its main casting line up this week, but already, it seems the announcement is causing waves. Overdo stars Zhang Linghe and Wang Churan with The Best Thing actor landing the top spot to portray the young warlord Murong Qingyi who was abused by his adoptive father after being mistakenly kidnapped. Likewise, Wang Churan gets second billing to play the seemingly gentle and pure daughter Ren Susu slash Fang Mulan who hides a vicious thirst for revenge for her family.
Fans Argue She Should At Least Get Equal Billing
The problem, as Wang Churan’s fans see it, is that she shouldn’t have gotten second billing over her co-star for this. At the very least, they say her team should have fought for equal billing and not settled to have her playing second fiddle. After all, didn’t Zhang Linghe also face the same problem with his Chasing Jade co-star Tian Xiaowei which ended with equal billing for both?
Wang Churan has steadily grown in popularity ever since playing noble consort Zhang in Serenade of Peaceful Joy and Xu Qin opposite Yang Yang. She has also starred as the female lead in several dramas Fireworks of My Heart being one of them and Are you the One, etc. Lately, she also got top billing over Cheng Lei in their yet to air costume historical How Dare You!? so hardcore fans say it’s only right that she’d been given equal billing in Overdo.
Determining billing order is indeed a complex thing which practically everyone has an opinion about. From investor demands and business considerations, the importance of a role (male or female-centric story) in the story to the artist’s ability to carry a drama, production has to consider many things and it’s not just by the actor themselves.
Regardless of billing order, some of her fans still consider this a good opportunity with the challenge of her playing two opposite personas in the revenge piece. What do you guys think?

Zhang Linghe definitely deserves top billing. I like Wang Churan but she does not have the same amount of popularity as him. Tian Xiaowei and him got equal billing again because they have more equal consumer appeal. Although WCR debuted earlier, ZLH has wayy more dramas where he’s the main lead than she does, I think she’s only led two dramas so far that have actually aired. Again, I really like her but this is a bad fight to pick on her fans part.
