How Dare You (成何体统) starring Wang Churan and Cheng Lei just wrapped four months of filming to go into post-production. Based on what we know so far, it looks like a fun watch—not just the typical setup where the heroine enters a book, but rather, both leads are time travelers, and there may be more.
Adapted from the novel by Qi Yingjun (七英俊) which has also been turned into a donghua, Wang Churan plays Yu Wan Yin, a burnt-out office worker from the modern world who finds herself turning into the notorious “demonic consort” inside a palace novel. Cheng Lei plays Emperor Xia Hou Dan—described as a “tyrant”—who, surprise, turns out to be a time traveler too. Together, they try to defy the story’s fated tragic ending.
Visually, Wang Churan’s mix of sultry imperial glam feels like her best costume drama look yet and meshes well with Cheng Lei’s dark-robed emperor persona. With palace intrigue and what looks like plenty of comedic moments, I’m definitely curious to check this one out when it airs.
Also joining the cast are Tang Xiaotian as Xia Hou Bo—who looks to be our villain—and Hu Yixuan as Xie Yong Er. The rest of the cast includes Ma Su, Cui Yi, and Louis Fan.
