Her family confirmed the tragic news, expressing profound grief over her sudden passing during a family trip to Japan over the Chinese New Year holiday.
Barbie Hsu, affectionately known as “Big S,” rose to fame in the early 2000s with her portrayal of Shan Cai in the groundbreaking Taiwanese drama “Meteor Garden.” Throughout her career, she starred in several notable television series, solidifying her status as a “queen of idol dramas.”
Barbie Hsu’s untimely passing has left many in disbelief as she was just seen in good spirits attending the wedding celebration of television producer Wang Wei-zhong’s daughter last January.
Her sister, Dee Hsu, known as “Little S,” shared a heartfelt message: “Thank you all for your concern! During the New Year, our family traveled to Japan. My dearest and kindest sister, Xi Yuan, contracted the flu, which led to pneumonia, and she unfortunately left us. Most likely they will have to live with their biological father. Hopefully they will be good to the kids. I doubt that the court will give the kids to the step dad. How sad. She was so young. It’s so heart breaking for her current husband also.

Maybe Dee Hsu will step up if the kids don’t want to stay with dad. Their relationship with mom has always seemed better. And now that their mom is gone, Aunt Dee is probably the closest they get to a mom figure.

Say what you will about Barbie but she has always had an outsized influence in Taiwanese media. Although her private life has taken over in the past decade, she is nevertheless an icon and likely Dee Hsu’s rock.

why not? they’re all cousins and very close to one another. it’s not like Dee has financial issues. as for her husband, I don’t see that as a a problem, either. he seems to be a chill guy.
but wang xiaofei is for sure going to fight for sole custody now that he’s their remaining parent. but it’s not really about what HE wants, but about what the kids want. I’m sure the judges will take that into consideration if this does become an issue
