Brocade Odyssey 蜀锦人家 recently got an unexpected shout out from Zhao Lusi who despite not being cast in the series, helped to promote it on her friend Zheng Yecheng’s behalf. Zheng Yecheng who is the male lead in Brocade Odyssey was Zhao Lusi’s co-star in 2020’s Love of Thousand Years. But if you think the 31-year-old actor put her up to it, then the answer is no because Yecheng recently shared that it was actually Zhao Lusi herself who took the initiative to promote his new project.
Whilst appearing as a guest in an interview recently the actor shared that it was Zhao Lusi who first sent him a message and suggested the idea. “Your new drama is on? I will help you promote it on Weibo!”
Friends Supporting Friends
When Brocade Odyssey first hit the air just days after The Story of Pearl Girl aired its finale, Zhao Lusi immediately took to social media to promote the show, writing “protecting brocade and appreciating Sichuanese scenery with Brocade Odyssey’s Yang Jinglan” – Zheng Yecheng’s character in the show. Meanwhile her grateful friend immediately wrote back “thank you, it was very awesome to watch Brocade Odyssey with Duan Wu”. Duan Wu is the name of Zhao Lusi’s character in The Story of Pearl Girl.
No matter how often it happens, it’s heartwarming to see friends supporting each other especially in the cutthroat world of show business. Zheng Yecheng and Zhao Lusi’s friendship began when they worked together in Love of Thousand Years. Although they’ve both been pretty busy doing their own thing since then, it’s thanks to a chance encounter on a plane that they got around to chatting once again.
“I seldom chat these days and Lusi is also quite busy filming one drama after another. She is also very tired so it’s rare we contact each other. It was a coincidence that we met on the plane that day. We’ve been sending a couple of messages recently and got around to talking about what we’ve been up to lately.” Seeing the pair’s newest interaction online, fans remain hopeful to see them working together once again in the future.

Hahaha, this is just riding on each other’s coat-tails when in good times. Creating a never-ending loop of “I support you, you support me” expectations. Hardly any sincere friendship here since they were not even in touch with each other privately. If not for the chance encounter on the plane, I’m sure this would not have happened.

Hate to be the cynic here but after calling on everyone and anyone to promote for Pearl Girl, she kind of had to do something to not look like a user.
