Since airing at the end of October, Romance in the Alley has been receiving a lot of love from viewers. What audiences aren’t lovin’ though is Adam Fan Chengcheng’s character Zhuang Tunan who critics claim lacked depth and appeared flat. To this the 24- year-old actor humbly admitted that the show has received mixed reviews but that he doesn’t necessarily think it’s a bad thing. “It shows people are still talking about our drama” he said. With so many comments and feedback from everyone, he promised that he will be reflecting on those inputs and that there will definitely be some changes in the future.
With a cast of strong and powerful actors such as Yan Ni, Li Guangjie, Guo Xiaodong and Jiang Xin accompanied by a younger cast, Netizens say Fan Chengcheng stuck out like a sore thumb. “Very wooden” was how some viewers described his acting that they feel Fan Chengcheng did the character of Zhuang Tunan a disservice when he turned out to be quite one dimensional instead of portraying the character’s growth as he adapts to the changing times.
Taking a look at his career, Fan Chengcheng made his debut as part of the idol groups Nine Percent and NEX7 in 2018. He then moved into acting a few years later through his drama debut Spirit Realm in 2021 and starred in blockbuster movies such as Pegasus 2 this year. The young star who started out being known as Fan Bingbing’s younger brother has made a name for himself. He’s also quite the personality in variety shows. However, his popularity drew flak with criticisms that Daylight Entertainment, which is known for quality productions is casting traffic stars. But then again, Netizens believe it all boils down to acting.

Yes, I was also disappointed that Daylight Entertainment would choose an acting lightweight like Fan Cheng Cheng to be the lead. Fan Cheng Cheng should go back to school and learn how to act .
