‘Shadow Love’ Trailer Features Song Yi as a Female General and Ryan Cheng Lei’s Mysterious Masked Man

So many things to digest in the intriguing new trailer released for upcoming iQIYI series Shadow Love 与晋长安 now that the cast and crew have wrapped filming. As a historical romance series adapted from the novel of the same name by popular author Jiu Lu Fei Xiang, the show features Song Yi as Li Xiang, a skilled female general from Tai Jin and Ryan Cheng Lei as Jin’ an who finds himself having to face a little amnesia “problem.”

What to Expect from Shadow Love

Their two nations are at war, but Jin’an doesn’t know that initially. After losing his memories, he is rescued by general Li Shuang who takes him in and renames him Jin’an, meaning long term peace and stability. He follows her everywhere in her attempts to root out a mole. As feelings begin to blossom between them, a new complication crops up when Jin’an finally remembers his real identity as an enemy. Can Li Shuang and Jin’an find a way to bring about peace?

As far as heroines go, I couldn’t wait to catch a glimpse of Song Yi as a kick arse general here. I know she played a femme fatale assassin in The Disguiser but more often that not, we usually see her in perkier roles such as the scary but adorable Zhang Ruoruo in Joy of Life. Since Shadow Love is all about a strong female lead, Song Yi looks pretty fierce in a lot of the clips, and the girl can still pretty much kick arse and wield that sword even whilst dressed demurely.

Meanwhile, as the hero of the drama, Cheng Lei appears to be aptly cast for the role of Jin’an, seeing how he played a similarly badass role in what is now being touted as his breakout role in last year’s hit, My Journey to You. Besides having perfected the broody protector type as Li Shuang’s unofficial right hand man, there appears to be a bit of fantasy elements to his character which is also manifested in the trailer. Think silvery veins and silvery hair, not to mention how he seems to transform into this super cool black masked leather clad character when he comes to Li Shuang’s aid.
