How to Slay Your Boss (千夜奇谭) has kicked off filming since August 20 in Hengdian with Li Landi and He Yu. It is adapted from the manhua Psychic Princess (通灵妃), which also has a popular animated version. Li Landi plays the main character Qian Yunxi, who’s shunned for her “ominous” powers until she takes her sister’s place in an arranged marriage to the prince, Ye Youming, played by He Yu. The roles seem a good fit for both, especially after Blossom of Power, where the actor was also a prince.
In How to Slay Your Boss, Zhao Yining, a modern-day office employee is transported into a game she helped design and becomes Qian Yunxi, a bride sent into a marriage in place of her sister. She soon discovers that her husband, Ye Youming, looks exactly like the boss who used to exploit her at work. She is then assigned a mission by the game system: assassinate him. After repeatedly failing, she discovers that Ye Youming literally cannot die!
So it has the same tropes we’ve all heard off before, but a promising creative team. Produced by iQIYI and Wajijiwa, the drama is directed by Zhao Yilong, known for Love Game in Eastern Fantasy, which literally had scenes where the heroine actively tries to kill the male lead before realizing that she needs to win his heart. It is written by Ji Sangrou and Ding Lu, the team behind New Life Begins. It also stars He Luoluo and He Qiu.
