It’s that time of year again when all the big dramas are going head to head. For summer 2025, director Fu Dongyu’s legal suspense drama In the Name of Justice 以法之名 has been making a killing in the ratings charts. It’s only been a week since its premiere, but the drama, which airs on CCTV, is dominating in TV ratings and online. To date, it’s the latest Youku drama in a string of consecutive hits including The First Frost, A Better Life, The Legend of Zang Hai that have already hit past 10k in popularity this 2025.
From Lukewarm Buzz to Winning in Ratings
With competition from the highly anticipated costume dramas The Princess Gambit and A Dream Within A Dream, buzz for the legal suspense drama didn’t start out high. But in just a few episodes, In the Name of Justice has quickly proven naysayers wrong. With a gripping plot full of unexpected twists, a cast of veteran actors and nary an idol in sight, viewers are most certainly hooked. If they continue along with this momentum, safe to say this show will be riding high in the rankings. It’s also led by Zhang Yi who aside from being an award-winning actor, has brought in ratings. Leading lady Jiang Xin also recently won a Magnolia Award for Best Supporting Actress.
In the Name of Justice Synopsis
Set in the province of Haidong, the drama follows prosecutors Hong Liang and Zheng Yaping as they reopen the notorious “Wan Hai Organized-Crime Case”. Whilst reviewing the old case, they uncover enough evidence that suggests judicial insiders have been manipulating the law to shield the syndicate. With a whistleblower’s tip as their entry point, the team dismantles the criminal network and brings the corrupt officials behind it to justice.
The series stars Zhang Yi as prosecutor Hong Liang, Li Guangjie as Li Renjun and Jiang Xin as Zheng Yaping.
