The production team isn’t being subtle either. Director Zheng Xiaolong has already hinted that “the story isn’t finished,” and actor Liang Chao teased that Gao Ming’s death might be “fake.” With the show’s high ratings both domestically and internationally—including an impressive 9.1 IMDb score—there’s plenty of demand for a second season. Although given how C-dramas work, even if they manage to bring the original cast back to film another season, it may take a while. There’s no official confirmation yet, but the signs are promising.

But the Gui Seal could trigger new dilemmas, and Xiang Antu’s Dongxia lineage may hold the key to solving them. Zang Hai might embark on another journey to uncover more secrets. Even if there’s no sequel, a happy ending is just what fans need. After everything he’s been through, Zang Hai truly deserves it.

It’s hard to tell a good intricate story with a lot of characters in 40 episodes. I can’t imagine something like Nirvana in Fire losing 14 whole episodes. The dramas that just add water/filler really ruined it for good productions.

Actually, Zhao Bing Wen has not died yet. As Zang Hai has told before, fighting with the “zombie army” is only illusion. Most of the killed persons in the fighting are self killing using their own sword. But Zhao Bing Wen was killed only in his illusion, therefore he is still alive.
