Upcoming Republican drama The Awakening 四十七 just held its boot ceremony recently, signaling the start of filming activities for the show. Expected to take up to 55 days to complete, the adventure series features the first time pairing of Zhang Kangle who appeared as Zhang Qiling in last year’s tomb-raiding adventure series Adventure Behind the Bronze Door from the famed Daomu Biji franchise and Zhou Jieqiong, who we last saw in the Fox Spirit Matchmaker’s Love in Pavilion.
Unlike most Republican dramas which usually revolve around a spy slash nationalistic narrative, The Awakening attempts to combine suspense, mystery and action with a dose of fantasy. Think dark underground vibes with a lot of running from the baddies plus a mystery in the form of 47’s hazy life story.
Set in the gloomy and damp sewers of the fictional city of Wangcheng, the fantasy adventure series revolves around Zhang Kangle’s character “47”, a man with amnesia. During those tense moments helping his companions escape pursuit from the baddies, our protagonist accidentally unlocks his long-sealed memories of his little known past.
The Awakening also stars Simon Yam and Yan An with special appearances by Zhang Meng and Ming Dao. In the meantime, here’s the newest character posters released by the series. It is produced by Youhug and Tencent.
