Yuan Bingyan and Liu Xueyi wrapped filming for Love Never Fails (落花时节又逢君) in 2021. It was anticipated, giving their couple pairing a chance after Love and Redemption, where second lead Liu Xueyi didn’t get the girl. Love Never Fails has literally been shelved for almost four years, and the show is only now dropping promos again, this time of Liu Xueyi with Hu Yixuan as his leading lady.
Aside from that, all promos from its official Weibo account were wiped clean, removing all trailers, stills, and materials related to original female lead Yuan Bingyan. Currently, word on the street suggests the drama will finally premiere on Mango TV on April 28, 2025.
Cast Replacement
Love Never Fails is a xianxia romance between a camellia demon and a celestial god. However, after Yuan Bingyan’s company faced a tax scandal in 2022, her projects stalled. To salvage the drama, the production team made a move that’s not uncommon nowadays: Hu Yixuan was brought in to replace Yuan Bingyan, this likely entails either having scenes reshot or AI face-swapping technology to patch footage.
Then again, it hasn’t always yielded the best results because AI face-swap is still kind of obvious, especially for a character that has a lot of scenes — since this is the heroine we’re talking about. It could feel weird, seeing Yuan Bingyan’s body while Hu Yixuan’s face is superimposed. Nonetheless, the final look would really depend on how much was reshot.
As for the cast, Liu Xueyi, who previously played support roles has finally earned his breakout role in In Blossom, adding buzz to this drama. Though it’s still unclear what effects the cast replacement will have. Hu Yixuan who now takes the leading role is known for starring in lighthearted web dramas.
Love Never Fails Plot Summary
At the once-in-a-century Flower Festival, Hong Ning (Hu Yixuan) boldly confesses her love to the god Jinxiu (Liu Xueyi), but he rejects her, saying immortals and demons are different. To fulfill a small promise, Hong Ning begins her cultivation journey. Yet when she ascends to heaven, Jinxiu has married someone else.
