A lot of Chinese dramas get made, making it easy for some to fly under the radar if they lack an A-list cast. Pretty Boy (君子如玉) just premiered on November 28, and a closer look reveals it to be China’s version of The Tale of Nokdu! The poster is definitely reminiscent of the beloved K-drama. From the first episode, the drama delivers slapstick comedy. While it’s clear this doesn’t have a big budget, Taiwanese actor-model Darren Chen (Guan Hong) is seriously perfectly cast for the cross-dressing role—he truly makes a “pretty” boy. Zheng He Hui Zi, who stole the show with her special appearance in In Blossom, finally takes the lead as the spunky heroine out for revenge.
In Pretty Boy, Qing Cai (Darren Chen), the late king’s son, lives incognito to avoid court politics. Forced to save his adoptive father, he disguises himself as a woman to infiltrate Mingyi Manor, a female-only sect. There, he meets Gan Po (Zheng Hehuizi), an orphan seeking revenge, and other characters with hidden motives. The Untamed’s Zhu Zanjin rounds up the main cast.
