After working on The Story of Pearl Girl, Love’s Ambition and now, Almost Lover 恋人, 2024 is proving to be quite a busy year for actress Zhao Lusi. Her latest collab with Peng Guanying makes this her third project as she’s been filming back to back this year. Before their pairing was announced, Zhao Lusi and Peng Guanying were already rumoured to be cooking up a brand new series together titled “Liu Yu” which was said to begin filming in October.
When their collab was first announced, it drew some buzz from folks curious about how their 12 year age difference and their height difference will pan out. Not that it’s an issue though. After all, Zhao Lusi worked alongside William Chan who’s 13 years older in Love’s Ambition which also has a lovers reunited plot. Nonetheless, with Lusi making her mark appearing in many hit dramas and Peng Guanying with his solid acting skills –check him out as one of Liu Yifei’s love interests in The Tale of Rose, they each seem to be able to hold their own.
What’s It About
Almost Lover tells the long-spanning story of Ruan Yu (Zhao Lusi) and Teng Yi (Peng Guanying). Although fate put them in each other’s paths at different stages of their life, things just weren’t meant to be the first and second time around. But worry not because the red string of fate had plans for them. What began when they first met in the campus ten years ago, continued to grow despite the years and circumstances that forced them to drift apart. And now, armed with the wisdom and experiences the years have given them, they make choice to finally be with each other.
In the series, the 25-year-old actress will be playing the tough and highly independent Ruan Yu. A realist whose cold temperament hides a romantic heart, Ruan Yu tirelessly works hard to support her grandfather and to achieve her goals. In contrast, 38-year-old Peng Guanying’s Teng Yi is a gentle soul, a romantic eager to escape the clutches of his family.
Almost Lover will be directed by Deng Ke whose works include My Heroic Husband and The Legend of Shen Li.
