Who knew that China’s woman of the moment (at least when it comes to the women’s synchronized 10 meter platform) Quan Hongchan, is a big big fan of Huang Zitao? In her post-match interview, the 17-year-old champion springboard diver was unexpectedly asked who her favourite stars are and why she sent a flower basket to Tao. She explained, “Because I think he’s very funny and vey handsome.”
His Dating Announcement Backfired
Recently, after years of denying anything was going on, Tao and rumoured girlfriend Xu Yiyang finally went public with their relationship. On the variety show which the couple filmed together, Xu Yiyang revealed the reason for delaying making things official publicly was coz the timing just wasn’t great. Tao was still dealing with grief over his dad who just passed away. She also said they also wanted to wait until their relationship was more stable before telling everyone.
Whilst this is definitely happy news, public reaction to their “announcement” didn’t turn out quite as expected. Instead of receiving congratulations from everyone, the couple were greeted by comments such as “revealing a secret that everyone already knows” or “don’t understand, don’t really care, don’t wish them happiness” as Netizens bashed and mocked the revelation.
It seems the beef people have with him is not because he’s in a relationship. It’s how he responded and dealt with the dating rumours that has everyone salty. Netizens pointed out that the episode revealing the relationship was filmed on June 24th, yet Tao was still running his mouth and scolding everyone on social media over the rumours. “Who confirms a celebrity is in a relationship? As an artist, I have to make it public?” he asked.
An Olympic Gold Medalist Fan
However, it looks like Huang Zitao definitely has a pretty solid fan in Quan Hongchan. She once sent a flower basket to Tao in one of his concerts, much like any fan would do. So when reporters asked her about it, she shyly admitted that she likes the idol and because she thinks he’s very funny and good looking. The young athlete who has quite a lot of fans herself, has been quite open about her fondness for the singer-actor, as she’d hit the like button on his social media posts, even his studio’s. This led to cheeky comments from Netizens saying Huang Zitao finally “achieved” something right.
Aside from Tao, the usually carefree young Olympian shyly said she also admires Olympic ski champion Eileen Gu Ailing. And what do you know, Eileen herself was sitting in the audience cheering on the diving duo of Quan Hongchan and Chen Yuxi as they take the gold in the synchronized 10m platform event!
