“Flourished Peony” (国色芳华) starring Andy Yang Zi and Li Xian has wrapped up seven months of filming from January 2024 to July 2024. While the actress has done a ton of historical dramas in her career, this Tang Dynasty-set drama promises to bring a fresh look with its intricate costumes and makeup.
Cast Lineup
Andy Yang Zi leads the cast as He Weifang, a skilled peony cultivator who rises above adversity. Opposite her, Li Xian takes on the role of Jiang Changyang, a shrewd investor. It’s certainly a treat to see the two stars reunited after “Go Go Squid!” and they should bring completely different vibes as an onscreen couple given the theme and the genre.
The series also boasts Wei Zheming (Miles) as a special star in the role of Liu Chang. The main cast includes Zhang Yaqin (Kiwi) as Li Youzhen, Tu Songyan as Ning Wang, and Guan Le as Zhu Fu with special appearances by Amelie Xu, Shen Mengchen and Tong Mengshi.
Plot Overview
Adapted from the novel by Yi Qianzhong, “Flourished Peony” tells the inspiring story of He Weifang, a master in peony cultivation, who overcomes numerous challenges to become a successful merchant. Along the way, she meets Jiang Changyang, an investor with noble ambitions for the country. Together, they aim to bring prosperity and aid to the people, crafting a legendary tale set in the grandeur of the Tang Dynasty.
