Here’s a new romance about first love and a cute first time pairing between the queen of sweet romances Zhao Lusi and Chen Zheyuan. If you’re craving for a light and fun rom-com without all the angstiness and heavy intensity, Hidden Love 偷偷藏不住 looks to be just the thing. The rom-com has already been given the green light for a June 20 release on Youku and comes just in time for summer. It’s also Zhao Lusi’s second drama to air this year after the medical drama Gen Z and Chen Zheyuan’s next drama after playing the romantic lead in Mr. Bad.
Based on the web novel Secretly, Secretly; But Unable to Hide It by author Zhu Yi, Hidden Love takes a page out of the best friend’s younger sister trope where the heroine Sang Zhi secretly harbors feelings for her brother’s friend Duan Jiaxu. The two grow close as Jiaxu cares for her like his own sister though they eventually drift apart. Fast forward to several years later and Sang Zhi gets her wish when she enters university and reunites with Duan Jiaxu, giving the two a shot at love.
The series also features Victor Ma Boqian playing the older brother, Zeng Li reuniting with Zhao Lusi after Love Like the Galaxy to play her mom once again and veteran actor Qiu Xinzhi as her dad. Apart from the main couple, it’s looks like we can also expect cute interactions from the heroine’s family, especially her brother whom she bickers with nonstop and also happens to have his own story in the novel First Frost by the same author.
