“Mr. Bad” New Trailer Has Shen Yue Summoning Chen Zheyuan’s Villain into Real Life, Lands on iQiyi’s Sweet On Summer 2022 Lineup

Summer 2022 is gearing up to be quite a sweet one if iQiyi’s summer drama round-up has anything to do about it.  The online streaming platform who recently announced its “Sweet On” initiative, is offering not just one but five romances that’ll keep you busy bingeing in your comfies this summer.

Mr. Bad Plot

Let’s take a look at Chen Zheyuan and Shen Yue’s Mr. Bad 我的反派男友, aptly titled “My Villain Boyfriend” in Chinese, whose premise looks quite promising what with Shen Yue’s character accidentally summoning Xiao Wu Di– the baddie from her own book into real life. “I’m the author of this novel, so technically… I’m your mother. And not wanting to date your mum is a pretty normal behaviour ”. With an opening like that, here’s hoping the banter throughout the show will continue to be just as hilarious!

Xiao Wu Di, Chen Zheyuan’s character in the series appears to be quite mean and douche-y at first. I mean, who lets someone fall face first into a tub of water after catching her? But then again who wouldn’t be in a bad mood if they kept being summoned away. Plus he’s supposed to be the villain in her book. Realising that the way back to his own world is to help Nan Xing (Shen Yue) realise her desire to find true love, he decides to help her out. As they continue to bicker at each other, perhaps there’s a kind-hearted man underneath his villainous façade after all?

iQIYI’s Sweet On Summer Lineup

Aside from Mr. Bad, four more romances are on offer starting with Angelababy and Lai Kuan Lin’s Love the Way You Are 爱情应该有的样子, a jie di lian aka an older woman-younger man romance. Dylan Wang and Esther Yu’s Love Between Fairy and Devil 苍兰诀 is also part of the lineup which essentially is a costumed historical version of your enemies to lovers trope.  Next up is Hu Yi Tian and Yukee Chen’s time travel Republican series See You Again 超时空罗曼史 about a movie star and a modern day screenwriter. Last but not the least, Love in Time 我的秘密室友, a time travel romance between a disgraced lawyer and a rookie reporter with a hefty dose of mystery thrown in also makes the cut. The series is a remake of the Taiwanese series Meet Me @ 1006.
