Youku series Hidden Love 偷偷藏不住 has recently wrapped three months of filming and that means we get to see some new stills featuring Zhao Lusi and Chen Zheyuan. I’m really liking both leads so far. They look cute together and another sweet romance just seems right up their alley given their previous works.
Hidden Love Synopsis
With its not-so-subtle title, Hidden Love follows Sang Zhi, a student who has a secret crush on her older brother’s friend Duan Jiaxu. She even begs/coerces him to pretend to be her brother and meet her teacher when she was in trouble. Duan Jiaxu cares for her as if she was his own little sister but they part ways due to some misunderstanding. Years later, Sang Zhi who’s now an adult is reunited with Duan Jiaxu.
Changing Up the Age?
Hidden Love is adapted from a popular novel by Zhu Yi 竹已 that has also been adapted into a manhua. There’s been questions about how Zhao Lusi can even play a 13-year-old since the novel follows a middle schooler having a crush on a 20-year-old guy. I know how it sounds but it doesn’t seem like the romance will blossom until the female lead’s an adult. Furthermore, the drama seems to be ageing up the characters as they captioned, “Story starts when he’s 22 and ends when she’s 22,” which would probably mean Zhao Lusi’s character is at least in high school at the start of the story. In reality, Zhao Lusi and Chen Zheyuan are pretty close in age at 24 and 26 respectively. I actually want to see them in a campus setting as I feel they’d fit right in.
Other cast include Victor Ma Boqian playing the older brother, Zeng Li reuniting with Zhao Lusi after Love Like the Galaxy to play her mom once again and veteran actor Qiu Xinzhi as her dad.
First Frost Getting a Drama Adaptation?
Hidden Love may have just wrapped but there’s already buzz about it having a sister project. First Frost 难哄 is another novel by Zhu Yi that also has its own manhua. It follows the story of Sang Zhi’s older brother Sang Yan. Rumors are already flying about the cast even though there’s no confirmation that a drama is even in the works. Can’t say I’m not curious though.
