The illustrious Magnolia Awards at the 28th Shanghai TV Festival filled the air with lights, cameras, and applause on June 23rd. Period drama A Lifelong Journey emerged as the undeniable star of the night, claiming Best TV Series, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor.

The 39-year-old actor Le Jiayin finally bagged the coveted Best Actor Award after being nominated twice for The First Half of My Life and The Longest Day in Chang’an in the past while his co-star veteran actor Ding Yongdai took home Best Supporting Actor. Meanwhile, Best TV Series didn’t have just one winner but two. Bright Future also won Best TV Series and its female lead Wu Yue took home the Best Actress trophy. Incidentally, Wu Yue was also Lei Jiayin’s co-star in The First Half of My Life where she portrayed a character you’d love to hate in the drama. Last but not the least, Liu Dan won Best Supporting Actress for her brilliant performance in Bai Jingting and Zhao Jinmai’s sci-fi series Reset.

The winners weren’t the only talk of the town last night as the hashtag “Zhao Liying accompanying the run 3 times” also trended online. This is Zhao Liying’s third time to be nominated for Best Actress at Magnolia Awards without winning. The 35-year-old actress had a very positive message when she took to social media to say, “Continue to run”.
