There have been three dramas in the Chinese Paladin franchise so far, each adapted from its corresponding version in The Legend of Sword and Fairy game series by Taiwanese company Softstar. Chinese Paladin set the bar high for for the xianxia (fantasy) genre when it first aired in 2005. Chinese Paladin 3 which aired in 2009 became a classic just like its predecessor. Not only did the cast from both which include the likes of Crystal Liu Yifei and Yang Mi rise to fame, Hu Ge’s name even became synonymous to the franchise after playing the charming protagonist twice albeit as different characters. Chinese Paladin 5 aired seven years later in 2016. Still produced by Tangren, it starred Elvis Han and Gulinazha who were under the same agency. Fast forward to 2022 and the number of series in the franchise has gone up to six.
