It’s finally a wrap for the medical themed drama Thank You, Doctor 谢谢你,医生 which first began filming in November 2019. The series which stars Yang Mi and Bai Yu as ER and ICU doctors was amongst the first to call off filming last year after the pandemic hit. However, even as the entertainment industry started to get back on its feet, Thank You, Doctor on the other hand was rumoured to have almost hit a dead end and postponed indefinitely because of its filming location in a Ningbo hospital. Thankfully, things have a way of working out with the cast resuming filming this year.
Based on the novel ICU 48 Hours ICU48小時 by author Sheng Li, viewers get to experience the emotional ups and downs as well as challenges doctors are often faced with through the eyes of Yang Mi and Bai Yu. Both stars portray doctors working in the newly established Emergency Intensive Care Unit which treats critical cases and terminally ill patients in the hospital. Thank You Doctor also stars Wang Yinan, Li Jie, James Li Dongheng from Eternal Love and Eternal Love of Dream, Jiang Ruijia and Cristy Guo Xiaoting with many actors like Qiao Zhenyu making special appearances.

With the way things are right now, the series appears to be a timely ode to the countless healthcare and medical workers worldwide who tirelessly made sacrifices and dedicated their health, time and energy in the continuing fight against COVID-19. The words “thank you, doctor” now hold a much deeper significance to everyone affected by the pandemic.

In other news, Novoland: Pearl Eclipse is finally ready for its grand reveal. Another Yang Mi helmed drama with William Chan as her leading man, the series which wrapped in September 2020 hit the small screens on Nov. 10.

The screenwriter was able to readapt the script during the pandemic and changed it to a realistic themed drama but I hope we’ll get a little romance. And YM looks cool with her leather jacket and bike from Reuters.
Seriously
HA! A Chinese drama depicting first responders, doctors during pandemic. Hmmm curious will they portray the government arresting the doctor that first raised the alarm of the virus orthe eventually death of said doctor? This MUST be a comedy right?
