The race to win this year’s Golden Eagle Goddess may already be over, but the buzz surrounding its top two contenders – Victoria Song and Seven Tan Songyun still hasn’t waned. Victoria Song has already emerged as this year’s victor, but the little furor caused by the action of Tan Songyun’s manager Fang Xiaoye definitely put her in the hot seat for poor sportsmanship.
It appears Tan Songyun’s manager hit the LIKE button on a post that said “Is the Golden Eagle Goddess nowadays so arbitrary, honestly, I don’t like Dilireba much, but at least she has some representative works, Victoria Song, just has Find Yourself, one drama can defeat Zhao Liying and Tan Songyun for two awards, I am speechless, it even aired on MGTV, sad that Tan Songyun became cannon fodder ” whilst voting was still ongoing. For some, Fang Xioaye’s LIKE constitutes an indirect diss towards Victoria Song.
There had been reports previously that the final candidate for the Golden Eagle Goddess has long been agreed upon. Netizens have also theorised that the elaborately embellished golden gown the goddess will wear has to have been pre-fit and pre-fabricated, further giving credence that the winner has already been pre-selected.
“It was a Slip Up”
Fang Xiaoye’s actions naturally landed her in hot water since it doesn’t exactly demonstrate a spirit of fair play. And because this also reflected poorly on her charge Tan Songyun, Fang Xiaoye issued an apology for her thoughtless action.
“I just realised that I clicked LIKE whilst surfing on Weibo last night. I’m very very sorry! It really wasn’t intentional. There are so many exceptional people working in this industry, and everyone nominated are outstanding ladies. Whoever gets voted as the goddess in the end, they should feel proud and worthy of this blessing! Once again, I apologise to my colleagues who were affected by my hand “slip up” incident. This is a profound lesson for me, and I will pay attention to it in the future! Sorry again.”
Victoria Song has been enjoying a lot of popularity this year with the success of Find Yourself 下一站是幸福 that she followed up with the female-centric drama Love Yourself 他其实没有那么爱你. Meanwhile, the attention received by Tan Songyun for Under the Power 锦衣之下 and the family oriented Go Ahead 以家人之名 also makes her a strong competitor for this year’s goddess. Other candidates include Esther Yu Shuxin, Li Qin, Guan Xiaoting, Maggie Jiang Shuying, Wu Jinyan and Li Yitong.

But then, I have never understood the point of this goddess thing and requiring the actress to prance around in some horrible gold costume. I don’t think it is a competition for best actress, right? I honestly think that the other actress’s were much stronger in the acting department compared to Victoria Song. I feel like these popularity awards are definitely not as fair to many other actresses who are really good but fail to win because of the other actress’s popularity. It is not a surprise that Victoria Song won by a big margin in regards to her votes. Considering she’s a Kpop singer and has been in the industry for pretty long, she will have a much bigger fanbase who will give her more votes.

This is funny matter because the next day song qian’s vote is found rigged and what the manager said was true. Sq’s fans probably did mass voting through bots that’s how she can surpassed the national sweetheart Zhao liying in favourite actress awards. What’s funnier the second in line after Zhao liying’s votes is tan songyun. Song qian may have bigger fandom, but you can’t beat clean votes from public who watched hit drama, and as tan songyun has 2 hit drama this year, under the power and go ahead, I guess that is reasonable for her to have high popularity to general public.
Being said that, the golden eagle goddess awards may probably rigged too? as tan songyun’s votes in weibo is higher and consistent (which you can’t cheat as it is strict) while song qian only won in mgtv which is easier to manipulate the vote as one person can actually cast multiple votes through different accs in many platforms. Tan songyun actually won in weibo’s voting and her votes in mgtv is consistent with her weibo total votes. The one is fishy is song qian but she is the default golden eagle goddess anyway so even if other people has higher votes, Victoria will still be the golden eagle goddess. What a mess! Why they bother to open voting every year if they won’t count the real votes

Victoria Song winning definitely came as a surprise to me, because TSY has been very popular all year, even ranking first or second on the weekly celeb list whenever her drama aired. Even all her dramas that aired this year were well received. I actually thought she was going to win. Honestly, what is the point of the award if they are not going to take into account of all of the other votes, unless they only took into account of whatever that one voting that VS was leading in. This brings me back memories from 2 years ago, and I don’t even want to relive or think about it. LOL

I think they should just scrap this golden goddess award. It is totally meaningless if it is only about popularity and not a reflection of real ability. Wow, interesting. Don’t really know what to think of that. How do you get caught in liking a post regarding another nominee and a negative one, so to speak. All the nominees are all deserving of the awards. What an honor! Victoria Song’s drama Find Yourself and Moonshine and Valentine were shortlisted. I really enjoyed it! Not only that her recent one, Love yourself was quit enjoyable too. In regards to votes. From what I’ve seen the Mgtv one allowed international fans to vote. The numbers were put out by them for everyone to see. Then number changes were made to the actors/actresses voting part to correct saying it’s an anomaly after Victoria was announced Golden Eagle Goddess while still in the middle of voting after seeing the outcome from the latter. What have they been doing all this time? waiting for drama to rise and being swayed by it? The process of getting the award, hmm I don’t know.

I have only seen Victoria Song in M & V. And although her weak, wooden, acting turned me off, I carried on for her male lead. When I saw the trailer for Find Yourself, she still seemed like a wide-eyed naive princess despite her role of a strong woman.
I’ve watched her dance videos on YouTube, and it made wish she’d act with the same passion she’d dance.

This award is consistent enough. When people said Yang Mi or Tang Yan was supposed to win, noob Zhao Liying won instead. Years later Zhao Liying finally got as popular as the Tangren artsists, even her own fans had no idea she already won before and was disqualified for a second round because she won during the time she wasn’t as popular. Tang Yan’s popularity was so overdue when she finally won at last. Then Dilereba won because of Pretty Lihuizhen. This is consistent. They can’t choose the honest candidate otherwise they won’t be consistent anymore. By this point only stupid fans still expect their idols to get this award. It’s such a joke that I bet some artists even paid to leave themselves out of participating in it.

Lmao if you are looking at the favourite actress award votes, Tan Songyun is second after Zhao Liying, Song Qian is just third after bots clean up. And the gap vote between Tan Songyun and Song Qian is not even small, as much as 100k++ Tan Songyun surpassed Song Qian’s votes. As for the Golden Eagle Goddess votes, people have been fishy about the results because apparently Tan Songyun been leading for days in both weibo and mgtv, until a few days before announcement, Song Qian’s votes suddenly strike up but only on mgtv, not weibo.
Even until the last moment, Tan Songyun’s votes in weibo still far surpassing Song Qian by 100k++. But they didn’t do the bots clean up for Golden Eagle Goddess, so there’s probability Song Qian won in mgtv because of votes because she lost in weibo to Tan Songyun. How is people saying Song Qian is more popular than Tan Songyun when she even lost to Tan Songyun in voting?

In terms of popularity overall, VS is much more popular bc she’s been in the industry for longer and has a much bigger fan base bc of her kpop idol background. You can’t deny that, but in terms of popularity this year, TSY hands down. Many of us agree that VS is popular but it is obvious that TSY should’ve won this year as her popularity was off the roof. He fanbase has grown a lot too. The only people who agree that VS was worthy of this win are her fans (which I’ll give that to them) and the people on Twitter. I don’t see that she did much this year at all aside from other works like magazines, etc. FY was popular but def not popular in many ways after it finished airing.

I guess that is because VS is the default Golden Eagle Goddess. The rumour she will be the GEG has been around ever since early this year, probably after Find Yourself. There is rumour VS has been going fitting for the GEG dress since months ago. They probably wouldn’t have thought for TSY to be a contender for VS popularity in voting. I don’t understand why they need to open voting like that when they aren’t going to follow the real results anyway. It’s not even a popularity voting anymore since someone else actually won cleanly which means the other person is more popular and yet they already have the default?

As for Victoria winning. I guessed she would win even before the nominees were announced. TSY is the better actress but Victoria’s recent dramas have been hits too. She was great in Find Yourself. If they were going to have a default winner since the beginning of time, what was the point of needing to cast a vote for it? There was no way a dress would just automatically fit a person had they not been announced as the winner wayyy prior to the award show and doing fittings already. It’s actually not fair for both the fans and the candidates who had been casting votes daily, if that was the case.

And yes it’s possible to adjust the dress a bit depending on the winner. Personally I don’t think the dress fit Victoria at all. It would have been the same had someone else won. The designer just focused too much on making THE DRESS standout instead of the beauty of the person who wore it lol.

Seven Tan gained a lot of popularity this year due to 2 of her hit dramas for which I’m very happy. She’s always been so underrated and with Go Ahead she definitely reached the mainstream audience but her popularity is still not greater than Victoria who’s always been on the popularity ranking lists whether she had dramas or not. Mainly because she’s active as a variety show star and model too. Don’t underestimate the power of Kpop guys.
Also can we just congratulate the winner and move on. What’s the big deal about this award anyways. I’m sure the actresses get over it so why can’t the fans?

I’m not sure why people are getting all riled up. Asian awards shows, beauty pageants, and variety competition shows are all rigged. It’s all about connections and doling out money and favors. I see the voting part as just a way to make viewers feel more involved. It’s like the thermostat on the wall in my clinic- it does nothing to adjust the temperature and is just there to make us feel like we have some control. 🙂
That said, the manager’s “slip-up” and fake apology are quite tacky. Even if you and the rest of the world feel your artist deserves the award, petty moves like that won’t benefit her in a country and industry that is all about appearances and saving face. I have never watched TSY or SQ in a drama so I have no opinion about who should or shouldn’t have won. Her dress though was unflattering.

I don’t like the style in chinese entertainment choosing their awards, why they chose only winners through voting what if this actors or actress have a large fan bases unlike Korean awards they base for awesome acting plus popularity of the drama ratings and story plot of drama in mainland and international.What if this actors have popularity bcoz their pop idol while the others are made popularity through excellent acting it’s big different hoping they must separate it.
