MBC’s Perfect Crown premiered with 7.8% ratings, a strong start that doubled that of its predecessor In Your Radiant Season‘s finale and surpasses the leading drama Phantom Lawyer, which recorded 6.7% on its 9th episode. In IU’s newest drama a year after the mega hit When Life Gives You Tangerines, we’re introduced to Seong Hui Ju, an intelligent and ambitious chaebol heiress whose shamelessly confident. It’s literally IU back in her “queen diva” era fully made up while driving her sports car, but her character is insecure about her illegitimate daughter status and commoner background. Byeon Woo Seok is oozing with charisma as Grand Prince Yi An, a man who seemingly has the country in his hands but was never allowed to truly stand out. Their stories mirror each other in a way that makes it exciting to see them come together.
We already know it’s heading toward a contract marriage, and that cliffhanger? Exactly what we wanted. It’ll certainly be fun to watch IU boldly pursuing Byeon Woo Seok. Perfect Crown is no doubt among the buzziest K-dramas this year, and if it continues its momentum, it looks like it’s living up to the hype.
