Reborn of the Rightful (窈窈有期), which recently started filming has announced its cast, led by He Yu and Bao Shangen. This marks He Yu’s next filming project immediately after Speed and Love finished airing. With its blend of rebirth, power struggles, and romance, the drama checks all the right boxes for fans of the genre. It feels like there’s been a number of dramas similar in premise to hit drama Blossom, and I say, the more the merrier.
Besides, Reborn of the Rightful is based on Scheme of the Official Descendant 嫡谋 by Mian Bei Mei Nan, a novel with its own fanbase. It seems like it would lean heavily into political maneuvering given that the role is being seen as a chance for Bao Shangen to show off a different side after playing innocent, sweet heroines. And with such clever characters, here’s to hoping it will deliver clever politicking rather than surface-level intrigue.
It follows Ren Yaoqi, the fifth daughter of the Ren family who is reborn with a clear goal to protect her family. Xiao Jingxi, the second young master of the Prince of Yanbei’s household, appears sickly and gentle, but in truth he is a calculating mastermind. What begins as strategic rivalry gradually evolves into mutual trust, as the two join forces to navigate both household conflicts and state affairs.
The supporting cast also includes Zheng Hehuizi as Ren Yaohua, Han Xue as Fang Yaru, Zhao Yibo as the defiant young noble Yun Wenfang, and Liu Riulin as Xiao Jinglin, with veteran actors Yu Rongguang, Allen Lin, and others joining the ensemble cast. The drama is directed by Zhong Qing, who previously helmed In Blossom.
