Here’s another popular drama that’s being remade into a “micro” version. The Prisoner of Beauty starring Lareina Song Zu’er and Liu Yuning, which is based on the novel The Marquis Is Innocent by Peng Lai Ke, is now getting a short drama adaptation and filming has officially begun this week. Yield to You 折腰 finally held its boot ceremony recently where everyone can finally have a look at the cast in their costumes. The 100 episode mini-series will feature a pairing between Yue Yuting and Caesar Wu Xize who will play the main couple Xiao Qiao and Wei Shao.
As far as casting goes, lead actress Yue Yuting is pretty much a dab hand in the genre with over 60 short dramas under her belt. Yue Yuting showed off her version of Xiao Qiao at the kick-off party wearing an almost off-the-shoulder violet and purple dress with a deep V neckline. Interestingly, her outfits from the series seem to have drawn polarised opinions online with some saying the style which bared her collarbone and shoulders is completely unsuitable for her role as a noble lady from a wealthy family.
But then again, this being a short drama, it’s expected to stay truer to the original, keeping the time-travel rebirth and having bolder scenes between the two leads. After all, the original has a lot of smut. Meanwhile, the casting of co-star Wu Xize also drew a bit of contention as viewers claim his temperament doesn’t seem to give off the male lead’s “crazed vengeful” vibes as his overall look feels more suitable for playing the role of a scholar. I was actually looking forward to this, but I definitely agree with the cnetizens about female lead’s clothes, and I’m not really liking the way how she’s exhibiting seduction instead of a noble aura. Male lead doesn’t physically look bad now that I’ve seen him in traditional attire, but yeah, he’s also lacking a fierce and commanding gaze. Guess will have to wait for a teaser to see how it really is.
