As far as surprise performances go, rock band Mayday certainly pulled off quite a coup when they managed to convince OG Taiwanese boy band F4 to reunite for their most recent concert. The unforgettable sight of F4’s Vanness Wu, Vic Zhou, Jerry Yan and Ken Chu as they serenaded the crowd with their hit ballad Meteor Rain certainly brought back all the nostalgic feels. But with all four members losing touch, did you know that the reunion almost didn’t happen had it not been for Mayday and Believe Music’s perseverance?

Losing Touch

In his recent livestream, Ken Chu bluntly said “no need to speculate, not close with them (the members). To be honest, our relationship isn’t that great.” He shared that when everyone was together, they’d chat, collaborate, sing or act together and they’d be very happy. But outside of work, they didn’t have a lot in common. Ken Chu reveals it has been nine years since he met up with the other three members.

At the concert, Jerry thanked the rock band for their efforts in getting all four boys men together again, something Mayday’s Ashin admitted was several years in the making. Ken shares it took him a while to get on board as he initially didn’t understand why they wanted an F4 reunion. But it was a conversation with Ashin that gave him a change of heart. Ashin told him “all the beautiful things from the time of our youth are gradually disappearing. I want to bring together these beautiful things once again, one of which is your reunion”.

It can be remembered that Jerry Yan and Vanness Wu attended Ken Chu’s wedding 9 years ago. Whilst it’s completely normal for the four to have less contact after they each developed their careers separately, some feel it’s too intentional how he’s repeatedly mentioned that they aren’t close.

Whilst many of us are still holding out for a full on reunion to happen in the near future, Ken shared Mayday’s concert may be the last time all four of them will sing together. He said the main reason for his hesitation was not because of the other three members. His mind is willing but his body is weak. Despite being only 45-years-old, he said it feels like his body is over 60.

On Barbie Hsu and Her Ex-Husband Wang Xiaofei’s Venture

Any F4 fan worth their salt knows Meteor Garden also starred the late Barbie Hsu who passed away in February from pneumonia complications. Touching on the topic in his livestream, the 45-year-old teared up when he reminisced about how Barbie was a presence in all of their lives. “I think all four of us loved her in our own ways when we were young.”

As for how Netizens recently scolding him for eating Ma Liu Ji hot and sour noodles – the brand founded by Barbie’s ex-husband Wang Xiaofei, a puzzled Ken asked why should he not buy it. “To honest, I really hope that Wang Xiaofei makes a lot of money. Otherwise who’s gonna take care of the two children?
