In the Moonlight (月明千里), which recently wrapped filming has just announced its cast. Produced by Linmon Pictures and adapted from Luo Qingmei’s (罗青梅) novel of the same name, the series unveiled first stills to mark the occasion.
Filming began in February 2025 and spanned four months, with production making use of real desert locations such as the vast landscapes of Yinchuan. It’s quite fitting for a story about Princess Li Yaoying who’s forced into a political marriage that she runs from. She then meets a lord named Luo Jia, determined to marry him instead, but he’s the sacred one of the Western region. In the novel Thousand Miles of Bright Moonlight, it’s literally about a heroine who transmigrated into a novel as a princess while the male lead is literally a monk.

Leading the cast are rising actors Bao Shang’en and Wang Hongyi. The 23-year-old actress has starred in back-to-back costume dramas lately, but for the 26-year-old Wang Hongyi who’s become the perennial second lead with his recent dramas Serendipity, A Moment But Forever and Snowy Night Timeless Love, it’s really good to see him headline a costume drama.
Joining them are Quan Yilun and Ma Qiuyuan in roles of political intrigue, having their own agendas. Yang Shize makes a special appearance as Li Yaoying’s older brother while Ding Jiawen and Zhou Haoqi also appear in supporting roles.

Don’t really see him as ML material, but good for him! Quan Yilun on the other hand, I have liked since Ancient Love Song. Hope he gets more opportunities as well!
