Retro drama Love Story in the 1970s 实用主义者的爱情 just made the casting of Arthur Chen Feiyu and Sun Qian official with their recent announcement. As the title says, the drama adaptation of Meng Zhong De Yi’s novel of the same name is set during the 70s, hence the nostalgic vibes of the photos in the new posters and teaser. It’s obvious that the crew put in a lot of effort to make us feel as if we are living in that era. With their use of sepia tones, nostalgia and romance quickly come to mind as it’s the colour of vintage photos reminiscent of a time long past.

Chen Feiyu plays the male protagonist Fang Muyang who whilst attempting to save someone, was also injured by accident. It was his friend and schoolmate Fei Ni (Sun Qian) who took care of him, hoping that her good deed will help her gain the recommendation to get into university. However, her hopes were repeatedly dashed, then the responsibilities of real life stepped in.

In order to help her brother resolve the problem of where he’ll be staying with his new wife after they marry, Fei Ni proposes a marriage of convenience to Muyang – a fake marriage with separate rooms of course. The fake couple finally manage to secure a home of their own where they slept on bunk beds. As Fang Muyang and Fei Ni face challenges and pursue their dreams together, a relationship unexpectedly develops. Like they say, shared experiences can indeed foster stronger bonds and feelings of connection.
