Chinese star Huang Zitao has taken an unexpected step into the sanitary pad business. During a recent livestream, the 31-year-old singer-actor-turned-entrepreneur expressed outrage over unscrupulous manufacturers profiting from defective sanitary products. This follows a recent exposé by Chinese broadcaster CCTV, which revealed that some factories were repackaging and reselling flawed sanitary pads from well-known brands and selling it as “new.”
Calling it “disgusting,” Tao said he’s actually been working hard to venture into the sanitary pad business; and that his wife, Xu Yiyang, has already tested 3-4 product samples. While minor imperfections still exist, he asks for more time. Determined to ensure quality and safety, Huang Zitao revealed plans to build a fully transparent sanitary pad factory where every step of production would be visible to the public 24/7.
The announcement has garnered significant online attention. After all, it’s not everyday you have a famous celebrity suddenly shifting gears into a completely different business. While Tao was accuseed of trying to draw buzz, some netizens stated that if he genuinely follows through with a good product, they will fully back his efforts.
Known as a second-generation rich, Huang Zitao reportedly inherited a vast fortune from his late father, a wealthy businessman. He has already built a career outside of entertainment, with business ventures including his own entertainment company and e-commerce.
