‘Take by Force’ Finds Li Muchen, Zhou Junwei and Xu Haoxiang in a Love Triangle of Sorts

Take by Force 夺娶 the short-length drama series that stars Li Muchen, Zhou Junwei and Xu Haoxiang just aired its premiere on January 15, 2025. Adapted from Er Yue Chun’s novel of the same name, it tells the story of childhood sweethearts Yun Xi and Xiao Chuyi who were set to marry, except on the night of their wedding, he gets sent off to the border.

Childhood Sweetheart Returns to Find the Heroine Married

Actress Li Muchen who’s made a name for herself in the mini drama niche stars as Yun Xi, the resilient heroine who manages to get back on her feet no matter the challenges life throws her. When she was six, she was abandoned in a cave and was on the verge of death when she was rescued by Xiao Chuyi.  As they got older, the pair became sweethearts. Life threw another curved ball when her soon to be husband was sent to the border on the night of their wedding.

Three months later, news came that he was killed in battle. Because she was already carrying Xiao Chuyi’s child, Yun Xi was forced to marry her cousin Zhou Yanyu portrayed by Xu Haoxiang who was in love with her. But then it turns out her childhood sweetheart really wasn’t dead after all. Lo and behold he returns six years later as a decorated general only to find his beloved already married though in name only to another man.

Zhou Junwei Back with Another Drama

Two years after the Story of Kunning Palace actor was “almost cancelled”, it seems the 29 year-old Jacky Zhou Junwei is really on his way back from the deep freeze.  Last year, there were already signs his career has begun thawing when Peacock in Wonderland, another one of his short dramas where he stars opposite Zhang Chuhan hit the screens in April. With the censors “less strict” when it comes to mini dramas, it’s the perfect avenue for him to test the waters for a full comeback. Likewise, I reckon that’s also the reason why the show got away with the many steamier scenes between the pair.
