The highly anticipated follow up to the hit drama Princess Agents has officially kicked off filming! No doubt fans of the original are buzzing with excitement with the news of this brand new addition to the Princess Agents universe that has Netizens calling it Princess Agents 2. After all, it’s been seven long years since the release of Zhao Liying and Lin Gengxin’s version in 2017.
Icy Lake Rebirth Teases a Continuation of Princess Agents?
The upcoming series is titled Rebirth 冰湖重生, but I daresay it’s the Chinese translation “icy lake rebirth” that’s proving to be more intriguing. After all, Princess Agent’s ending saw Yuwen Yue sinking to the bottom of an icy lake. Yan Xun had used Chu Qiao as bait to set an ambush to kill Yuwen Yue. And it looks like he may have succeeded since Yuwen Yue just had time to push Chu Qiao out of the ice lake but not himself. It left countless viewers dissatisfied with this heartbreaking ending.
So could the title be teasing a Yuwen Yue rebirth? Whilst many are no doubt hoping the story will pick up where the original left off, there’s also the possibility that we might be getting a reinterpretation of the original material from the novel The Legend of Chu Qiao: Division 11’s Princess Agent (11处特工皇妃) by Xiao Xiang Dong Er (潇湘冬儿).
New Princess Agents Features a New Cast Except for One
Rebirth will feature a different cast, although a 17-year-old Huang Yang Tiantian who played the young Chu Qiao in the original might be a familiar face. Li Yunrui whom you might remember from second lead roles like The Last Immortal and currently headlines in Blossom steps into the shoes of the character originally portrayed by Lin Gengxin which now sticks to the novel’s character name of Zhuge Yue. Zhang Kangle will portray Yan Xun – Shawn Dou previously, with actress Xia Meng rounding up the group as the princess Zhao Chun’er (Li Qin).
Staying true to the “icy lake” bit of the Chinese title, the show also released posters for a first look at the characters including Li Xiaoqian as Li Ce and The Double’s Vivien Li Meng as Queen Bian. Check them out below:
