IU and Byun Woo Seok to Star in Romance Drama “21st Century Prince’s Wife”

Byun Woo Seok had a whirlwind year with the well-deserved success of the 2024 campus drama Lovely Runner, which saw his popularity rise tenfold. It’s certainly inspiring to see the 33-year-old actor get what’s not just a big break but a huge leap in his career after being in the business for quite a number of years.

The “rollercoaster” part of his year stems from an airport controversy where his bodyguard actions led to public criticism. Fortunately, the issue has since settled down as he continues to land endorsements. Now, Byun Woo Seok is back in the spotlight with an exciting announcement: he will star as IU’s leading man in the upcoming drama 21st Century Prince’s Wife (working title). IU, known for delivering memorable hits, will play Sung Hee-joo, a chaebol heiress. Fans of her hit drama Hotel Del Luna know she excels at portraying strong, fierce characters.

Their new K-drama 21st Century Prince’s Wife, set in a modern-day constitutional monarchy of South Korea, features Byun Woo Seok as Lee An, the second son of the king. Despite his royal title as a prince, he lives a life devoid of privilege, but everything changes after he meets Hee-joo. Together, they navigate personal growth and an unconventional romance.

The drama, an award-winning script from MBC’s open script contest, promises a fresh take on modern royalty. Co-produced by MBC and Kakao Entertainment, it’s looking very promising indeed.
