Yang Zi and Elvis Han Kick Off Ming Dynasty Drama About the Ink-Making Business
The two stars with director Hui Kaidong.

So Yang Zi has kicked off her newest drama that pairs her up with new leading man Elvis Han Dongjun. This is another one that has the 32-year-old actress in a business-centric theme set in ancient times as she also has the upcoming Flourished Peony set in Tang Dynasty. This time around, Yang Zi’s heroine delves into the intricate world of ink production, a millennia-old intangible cultural heritage in China.

Jia Ye 家业 revolves around Li Zhen (played by Yang Zi), the youngest daughter of the declining Li family. The drama brings to life the rise and fall of a prominent ink-making family in Huizhou. Joining her is Elvis Han Dongjun who plays Luo Wenqian, a strategic and resourceful figure determined to revive his own family’s ink business.

Yang Zi has been known to deliver hits. Interestingly, I first heard of this drama from Yu Zheng seemingly throwing shade at the actress for taking on a drama with “weak script” but has the potential to be nominated for an award. Frankly, “award-winning” sounds like a compliment. Han Dongjun is known for Wu Xin: The Monster Killer early in his career. Here’s to hoping he also earns his next breakout role.
