We finally have updates for the release of Creation of the Gods 2 封神第二部:战火西岐, the sequel and second part of the Chinese fantasy trilogy which was sadly pushed back from its expected 2024 release. In late spring, film director Wuershan took to social media to express his regrets over the delay, citing increased complexity and work over post-prod activities as the main reason. But good news for fans as the production just made a surprise announcement that the next installment to the popular fantasy franchise will be part of the Spring Festival lineup in 2025.

Meanwhile, Wuershan also echoed the announcement on his own page: “on the first day of the Lunar New Year, let’s all be gods together!” In case you’re wondering, the Lunar New Year falls on January 29, 2025 so fans won’t have too much of a wait till it airs.

First part of the trilogy released on July 20, 2023 with box office earnings reported to hit over RMB 2.6 billion. With its stunning visuals, gripping plot and a high profile cast including Fei Xiang, Li Xuejian, Huang Bo, Chen Kun etc, part one of the trilogy received a lot of attention, ultimately netting the film a Best Feature Film award at the 36th Golden Rooster Awards and paving the way for new actors like Yu Shi who shot up to stardom.

What Can Fans Expect from Creation of the Gods 2

Part two of the story will take viewers to the Xiqi side where an epic fight between its army and that of the Shang’s will take place. With the army of the Shang dynasty fast approaching the city, defendants of Xiqi rise to the challenge. Jiang Ziya, Yang Jian and the other immortals from Kunlun mountain come down to help.

In additional to the story and new characters, Creation of the Gods 2 also gets an upgrade in visual effects and action scenes. As we all know, Creation of the Gods 1: Kingdom of Storms already set the bar pretty high with its spectacular visuals and rich storyline. How the sequel aims to top that is pretty intriguing. It’s revealed that the special effects shot for the film exceeds 2000, leaving no doubt that audiences will once again be treated to a visual feast in theatres once January 29th rolls around.
