Zhang Linghe May Reunite with Lu Yuxiao for New Drama, But His Fans Are Against It

Zhang Linghe’s upcoming historical drama Revenge (刺棠) is reportedly scheduled to begin filming in September, and after a few casting rumors, from Wang Yuwen allegedly being replaced to Tian Xiwei not able to join, word on the street is that Lu Yuxiao is currently the frontrunner for the role. If it pushes through, it would be their second collaboration after My Journey to You.

Zhang Linghe Fanclub Issues Statement

The rumored casting has sparked significant backlash from Zhang Linghe’s fanbase. His fanclub issued a statement urging his management to reject the casting. In their statement, they “firmly oppose” the rumored casting of an actress from Zhang Linghe’s own agency as his co-star in any future project. According to the statement, the actress and her team repeatedly incited controversy during past collaborations that they believe negatively affected Zhang Linghe’s interests. They also argue that the co-star’s reputation and market response to her makes her unsuitable for the role. They called out Linmon Pictures (the production company), Star Times (the agency managing both Zhang Linghe and Lu Yuxiao), and Zhang Linghe Studio, to decline the casting.

What Happened?

The issue is said to stem from My Journey to You where Zhang Linghe was the male lead and Lu Yuxiao, the second female lead paired with Cheng Lei. Fans claim that Lu Yuxiao’s manager became friendly with a Zhang Linghe anti known as “Fofo” who had spread rumors about the actor and that Lu Yuxiao was aware but did nothing to stop her manager. Furthermore, they believe the agency has been “bundling” the two stars excessively.

Although Lu Yuxiao has found success leading dramas like Love in the Clouds, her reputation recently took a hit over allegations about her “lack” of professionalism. There were rumors she made actor Chen Xingxu wait for hours during filming. She was also criticized over behind-the-scenes footage from Dancing with the Tide. Some netizens felt that her holding a prop knife incorrectly against Tan Jianci’s neck and smiling as she noticed as well as filming dance videos in between takes as they filmed a funeral scene were unprofessional. Although her studio issued a statement saying things were fabricated or taken out of context, the controversy already placed a label on the actress. Until now, there has been no official news on the casting for Revenge.
