Yang Zi Wins Best Actress at Magnolia Awards 2026

Chinese actress Andy Yang Zi has just won Best Actress at the 31st Shanghai TV Festival Magnolia Awards for her portrayal of Bai Ju in the drama Born to be Alive. This marks the 33-year-old actress’ first win, which also makes her the first post-90’s generation actress to win the award.

Yang Zi was visibly emotional, already crying as she walked up to the podium after her name as announced, but not forgetting to clarify the rumors that she lost 15 jin just for the role, she says she didn’t. During her acceptance speech, the former child actress thanked her parents for supporting her dream throughout the years: “Since I was five years old, after I told them I wanted to become an actress. They didn’t crush my dream but supported me the whole way. These years, no matter what challenges, contempt or difficulties. My parents would always say, “My daughter is the best”… Today, I won this award, your daughter has not let you down.” This was Yang Zi’s third nomination for the Best Actress award after Lost You Forever and Flourished Peony. Previously, she was also nominated for Ode to Joy where she played a supporting role.

The Best Actor award went to Yu Hewei for Silent Honor, his second time to win. Li Xue won Best Director for Born to be Alivee. Best Drama went to Swords Into Plowshares.
