Chinese actress Ren Min was criticized for looking “chubbier” in unedited photos from an event, prompting a wave of fan comments urging her to lose weight. Though there are also comments saying she’s slim as it is, her response was a photo of herself in gym attire and the caption, “Working hard.”
Ren Min had attended a promotional event for Light to the Night, the drama led by Pan Yueming and Dylan Wang, where she is a special star. However, a surge of fan commentary urging her to lose weight cropped up, with suggestions ranging from dieting to fitness routines. Some emphasized the “need for actors to be responsible for how they look on camera”. They said that they’re worried she’ll be criticized when all eyes turn towards her for the promotion of her costume drama A Splendid Match and feared a repeat of the criticism she faced during The Longest Promise, where she was mocked for her looks.
While some fans praised the 26-year-old actress for her willingness to acknowledge feedback, even saying she only needs to watch her weight until promotions are over, others questioned why such pressure exists in the first place and that it reinforces unrealistic beauty standards that favors very thin figures. At 167cm tall, Ren Min is already slim and is known to have a round face-shape. However, the industry has also often imposed stricter weight standards especially for the historical genre.

I wonder how many of the people calling a person with normal proportions “fat” could live up to their own misguided beauty standards?
These actresses work hard so they need to eat proper meals, not starve themselves into skeletons. Those thin arms and protruding bones don’t look beautiful at all! As this thinning craze goes on, it is no wonder so many actors and actresses end up in the ER with health problems.

She should just ignore them. Those fans who commented on her weight ae not real fans. Nobody needs those toxic fans. She is already so tiny. You can see that in Light to the Night.
She can’t help it if she has a round face bone structure. No amount of weight loss could change that. She doesn’t need to look like another plastic doll face. I have started on A Splendid Match and I think she looks splendid in there. With acting chops to match.

She’s fine, no need to lose weight, but she needs to stop accepting costume dramas. She looks great in modern, stick to that. Why put yourself through pains to be in costume dramas 🙄🤦♀️ she doesn’t have a face for costume drama, n that’s fine, stick to your strength?! Just don’t be in idol costume dramas, unnecessary stress, and very little gain.
