Chinese sci-fi drama Red Moon Appeared (从红月开始) has dropped its first posters of the cast led by Guo Qilin, Chang Huasen, Jiang Peiyao, and Chen Shu in a special starring role. The series features a badass ensemble of characters in a post-apocalyptic setting, which seems to be picking up as a new trend in C-dramaland.
Adapted from the novel of the same name by writer Heishan Laogui, the story is set in a world where a mysterious Red Moon causes mental mutations in 70% of humanity. The protagonist, Lu Xin, awakens supernatural abilities and joins the “Special Pollution Cleanup Department,” investigating mental contamination incidents while uncovering the conspiracy behind the Red Moon.
Much discussion surrounds Guo Qilin, who had his start in comedy, taking on a dark and psychologically complex role. Then again, the 30-year-old actor has an eye for good scripts from My Heroic Husband to Escape from the Trilateral Slopes, which are two completely different genres. There’s also the added pressure to successfully recreate the novel’s large-scale sci-fi world, visual effects and characters, which already have their animated counterparts. The screenplay for the Red Moon Appeared live-action is written by Bai Yicong, whose works include Heroes and Blemish Flaw.
