Chinese singer-actress Ju Jingyi is suddenly trending online not just because her new drama Veil of Shadows (月鳞绮纪), finally announced its premiere date of April 1, 2026, but also because allegations of tax evasion unfolded on the same day.
Ju Jingyi had just gone online to promote her newest role saying, “I was created and controlled all my life, but this time I want to be my true self.” Incidentally, it seems reflective of her own experience, as the 31-year-old actress who started out as a member of idol girl group SNH48, has been in a public dispute with her former agency STAR48 Siba Media (丝芭传媒) since 2024. Attention shifted when it was revealed that her previous agency had reported her to tax authorities a day earlier on March 30, accusing the actress of tax evasion in 2024 and alleging that she declared approximately 11 million yuan in income while her actual earnings for half a year were closer to 50 million yuan, suggesting a discrepancy of over 85%.
Tax authorities are said to have received the report, which would kickstart an investigation. Given that the tax allegations remain unverified and are based solely on claims from one party, the final outcome will depend on the official findings.
While tax allegations are potentially career-ending in the Chinese entertainment industry, it has drawn mixed reactions as many believe it may be a tactic given the ongoing contractual disputes between Ju Jingyi and Siba Media. Others believe that it is a serious matter and anyone proven guilty should face consequences. Meanwhile, some question whether the drama’s release schedule may be affected.
UPDATE:
China’s tax authorities released a statement to say no tax violations were found after reviewing multiple reports against Ju Jingyi since September 2025. The latest complaint was rejected for lacking new evidence. Officials reaffirmed their commitment to fair enforcement and compliance.

So annoying it seems like tax evasion is the new smear tactic. They should make it punishable for those who make false claims with serious consequences.
what makes this even more suspicious is that they wait till the day before a show is released to make the claim and over one year later. so petty!

really despicable her previous agency did that.
