Felix Wong recently revealed that he considers himself permanently retired from showbiz. Known for his roles in Jin Yong classics, the 64-year-old has spoken about his decision to close his acting career of over 40 years with characteristic honesty: “I can’t return to my peak; better to leave the audience with a good impression.”
His words, said during a charity event, revealed that he has declined all offers. It didn’t matter from who, even friends who have asked. When asked if his daughter Adrian Wong Tsz-ching would also request for a cameo, he said she wouldn’t ask that of him because she knows him well.
Yet the deeper reasons behind his retirement also stem from personal loss. Since 2013, he significantly reduced his workload to accompany his wife Leung Kit-wah through treatment for leukemia until her passing in 2020. She had been his number one fan, often helping him analyze roles. The actor’s last project aired in 2017.
The news also prompted a wave of reflection on his legacy. His 1983 portrayal of Guo Jing remains a classic, while his 1997 Qiao Feng in Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils is still regarded as one of Hong Kong television’s most iconic wuxia series. As a member of the “Five Tiger Generals of TVB,” he certainly helped shape the golden era of Hong Kong drama. With his official retirement, Felix Wong wishes to give himself time to do the things he wants to do. He also remains active in sports, playing with his friends as part of the Hong Kong Celebrity Football Team.

I agree with his statement. Felix has always struck me as a person who had high values and integrity, not one to chase fame. His acting career has been stellar, every role memorable. He made every role his own. He is an actor’s actor, with good looks to boot. He is right, it is much better for him to have left the industry on his terns and for people to remember his acting with respect and admiration. Rather than for him to return with a cameo and there will be comparisons because he has been away from the screen for so long; he’s aged, he’s put on wait, his acting is no longer as good. He does not need that. He’s a smart and realistic man. Good on him. All the best Felix!
