Fan Bingbing Shares Best Actress Win on Global Platforms After Chinese Social Media Posts “Disappear”

Chinese actress Fan Bingbing’s Best Actress win for Mother Bhumi at the 62nd Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan made headlines, but inside mainland China, the news “vanished.” Although she didn’t make it to the awards show, she posted celebratory photos and messages right after the ceremony, searches on major platforms returned nothing; the posts are gone, there were no trending topics, no media coverage, and no trace of her acceptance speech.

With her win effectively “disappeared”, the 44-year-old actress turned to international platforms, sharing her thoughts and the long-awaited photo of her Golden Horse trophy.

In her lengthy post, Fan looked back on the entire filming journey in Malaysia. She thanked director Chang Keat Aun for his calm leadership, saying he always managed to spark inspiration at key moments. She also praised the crew for their professionalism despite tough shooting conditions.

This win also marks another significant comeback via international channels since being blacklisted in mainland China following the 2018 tax scandal. Incidentally, it’s the same year the country began its full boycott of the Golden Horse Awards. The actress ended her message in a hopeful tone: “Every obstacle can be overcome; after the storm, the rainbow appears.”
